Brilliant Bolt Beijing Banter

Well that was that, a Bolt of Beijing brilliance.

If you were fortunate enough to witness the awesome sprinting of Usain Bolt live at the Beijing Olympics then more power to you.

The Jamaican was simply brilliant, words cannot describe the amazing ability and display of this young athlete.

Not only did he set 2 amazing World Records plus a 4x100m WR but he also had the unique distinction of celebrating his birthday during the Olympic Games. Only 22!!!

Incredible, some might say where has he come from however he has been around for some 7 years before this wonderful out of this world display.

At 15 years old the ambling presence of the future Mr Bolt was being witnessed by the locals.

At 16 he was known to junior athletes worldwide and much was expected and anticipated, I myself for 3 years added him to my Fantasy Teams only for him to let me down.

Then last year something happened, he mentioned that it was time to start applying further work to his God given talent and Osaka 2007 produced a Silver at the World Championships over 200m.

He had been labeled a 200m athlete by his coach and his appearances over 100m at elite level were non existent and then he blitzed a 100m and wanted to see his potential at the distance. There was a great amount of 'ummming' and 'erring' from his coach and if the coach had won we certainly would not have seen the magnificent 100 and 200m World Records in Beijing.

When he broke the WR over 100m it was only his 13th elite race over the distance and this underlined what a special talent Bolt was and why the 200m record was possible.

In the build up to the Olympics, Bolt broke the WR and still his coach was not considering the 100/200 double for Beijing and furthermore Usain needed to get selected in the 100m.

Asafa Powell beat Bolt in a showdown and some doubted whether the 'long time prodigy' had the stomach for 1 on 1 head to heads.

Beijing put away any doubts about the athlete's big match mentality and we can probably look forward to another 4 to 6 years of further brilliance.

Thanks Usian for your Bolts of Brilliance

Do note that the Beijing track surface was new and was a super fast surface and the conditions allowed for fast times all round, something which may prove difficult to replicate in a hurry.
